It has been a while since I last logged a blog. Tonight my heart is heavy as I watch the news, witnessing the devastation in Japan. It leaves me with a helpless feeling, wanting to help and not knowing what we can do, so many miles away from the natural and man-made disaster as it unfolds.
I once had a Japanese exchange student; it has been thirty years since I’ve seen Reiko and perhaps five since we last communicated. She was living in Kyoto and I don’t believe it is very near the earthquake or tsunami, but she has not responded to my email from three days ago. My sister also had an exchange student from Japan. She has not said if they’ve heard from Yumi. It makes it more real, knowing actual people who may have been affected.
I am appreciating my health, family and safety tonight. I am praying for the people of Japan. I can do that much tonight.
